We were taught that everyone is unique in his or her own way, but if there’s one thing we all have in common, it’s that we all love food! Last August 18, 2014, Monday, I visited a pleasant and cozy coffee shop. Located at the second floor of the UP ISSI, Virata Hall, Emilio Jacinto Street, corner University Avenue, UP Diliman, Brew Up by Palengkera is the perfect al fresco place to have merienda, to hang out with friends, to relax and read, or even to cram that thesis paper you’re working on!
Brew Up’s soft opening occurred last July. It was officially launched just a few days ago, August 14, 2014, Thursday. Owners, Eileen and Chippy Rivera, were very welcoming when we decided to have merienda at their coffee shop. During our delightful visit, I learned that Mrs. Eileen Rivera is actually an alumna of UP! She was a graduate of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.
I asked her what the inspiration was for establishing the Brew Up, and she said, “It’s a celebration of everything Filipino.” After doing a little research, I found out that this was their tagline! It is very fitting, for in Brew Up, they use the resources found in our country and sell Filipino food and drinks. She said that they celebrate the Filipinos doing “honest hard work through food and drinks”.
I dare you to take a look at their menu and not smile! The witty names of each item on the menu, from Hamon Bautista to Anak ng Tinapa!, will definitely brighten up your day.
First we had the Chipster, camote chips with scrumptious dips.
Then we tried the mouthwatering Hubadero, which was a skinless longganisa pandesal.
We ordered Batangas Barako and Homemade Calamansi Iced Tea for our beverages, both delicious.
One can enjoy finger-licking food and delectable drinks at affordable prices and, at the same time, bask in the ambiance of beautiful Mother Nature.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit at Brew Up, and I will definitely drop by again! You guys can check it out too! Brew Up is open from 10AM to 8PM, Monday to Saturday (excluding holidays).
Oh! And did I mention that Ramon Bautista, Johnoy Danao, and Jojo the Love Survivor have already dropped by?
